I have been asked to link exchange with another website, is it a good idea?
Link exchanges with random sites used to be a good idea, a few years ago. Yes, it helped many sites to get where they were, both increasing PageRank and increasing search engine results positions. But these days, links buried away on links pages have little or no effect and the time and effort that it takes to maintain them could be better spent elsewhere improving your traffic.
Is PageRank important?
Are you buying and selling links or do you want to improve your website traffic? PageRank is an indicator of the number and quality of pages that point to the page you are looking at. But, it does not always hold true that a page with a higher ranking will list above a lower ranking page in search engine results. For traffic, PageRank is irrelevant.
Does article writing work?
Yes, it does and in two directions. First you can get a lot more links into your website that usually the search engines will see (although not all article directories ‘follow’ their links), But secondly, a decent article directory will also have plenty of readers and some of those should read your article. If it is useful, then they might just follow the link to your website and that directly increases your website traffic.
Why have I got more Yahoo links then Google?
It is simply that Yahoo shows all of the back links to your site that it can find whereas Google filters the links that it shows using various criteria so that it only shows quality links. This doesn’t always mean high PageRank pages, just that it will only show links if it really likes them! But it is not really clear how Google filters this information.
Do I need to put a list of search terms in my keywords / meta data / title / description?
No, the way that search engines are working these days just be certain to make sure that everything you do is for the benefit of human readers. A human reader is not going to be more interested in your site because you list 50 keywords in your title, in fact when they see that in the search results they are more than likely to skip your entry. Search engines are trying to emulate people more, so give the search engines a more human orientated page.
